Site Supervisor – Petroleum Team Lead

Phoenix Petroleum Ltd. is currently seeking talented individuals interested in a Site Supervisor – Petroleum Team Lead position with our well established and fast-growing company.  

Location: Edmonton

Job Summary:

At Phoenix, the Site Supervisor – Petroleum Lead is responsible for the efficient use of labor, machines, and materials by their crews, providing reports on such things as personnel, costs, schedule and safety.  The incumbent is accountable for accomplishing petroleum construction project results by defining project purpose and scope; calculating resources required; establishing standards and protocols; allocating resources; scheduling and coordinating staff and sub-contractors; evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions; resolving design problems; evaluating and implementing change orders.

Accountabilities Include:  

  • Execute project plans in accordance with project budget and timeline; monitor project expenditures; identify variances; implement corrective actions; including change orders.
  • Support the recruitment /selection of employees and provide orientation, job expectations, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, adhere to policies & procedures, safety, disciplining; recommend compensation actions
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan and to manage subcontractor activities.
  • Manage employees and sub-contractors, monitoring and controlling performance, ensuring  all work completed is compliant with contract specifications, and drawings
  • Conduct QC and safety inspections at critical phases; obtain approvals from stakeholders.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures; maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Facilitate site meetings /toolbox huddles
  • Prepare various reports and  keep detailed records of construction site activities
  • Order materials and schedule deliveries
  • Advise trades and subcontractors on Phoenix safety and quality control standards
  • Daily inspection of the sites to ensure cleanliness and safety policies adhered

Requirements Include:

  • Petroleum Mechanic certification 2 & 3 
  • Supervisor experience within Downstream Petroleum Industry preferable
  • Knowledge of petroleum construction, above ground/underground fuel piping systems and  storage tanks 
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry operations; construction specifications, building materials, methods and procedures
  • Strong  delegation, planning and leadership skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Effectiveness in the areas of construction safety and productivity
  • Knowledge of provincial / federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and blueprints and equipment specifications
  • Notable verbal and written communication skills, clearly and concisely in multiple forms
  • Influential interpersonal skills, building positive relationships at all levels
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with industry standard software
  • Self-motivated, strong analytical skills and detail-oriented
  • Ability to mitigate and manage on site discrepancies between own-forces, and sub-trades.
  • Ability to visualize the entire project and anticipate constructability issues, embed solutions in the construction plans and schedules
  • Ability to visualize and create the project schedules critical path
  • Ability to schedule, monitor and forecast resources for optimum efficiency
  • Understands when to seek out advice


  • Petroleum Mechanic certification 2 & 3 
  • 3+ years' experience as a Construction Site Supervisor or equivalent
  • College diploma or education in appropriate construction/petroleum related field an asset
  • Certified CSTS,WHMIS, POST,  First Aid with CPR and fall protection preferred;
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence certificate an asset
  • Fluent English language skills, Fluency in French an asset
